What is a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP)?
About 15 to 20 percent of all people are born with a nervous system that is highly sensitive to stimulation. Noise, bright lights and emotional intensity deeply effect Highly Sensitive People. Being an HSP can feel like a challenge, but is also an asset - because HSP's can be highly intuitive, deeply empathetic and full of wisdom. I help people learn to be okay in the world, advocate for themselves and allow their sensitivity to guide their lives. I am inspired by the pioneering work of psychologist Elaine Aron, who developed an understanding and methods to help Highly Sensitive People (HSP's). Here are a few questions from her Self-Test. Most HSP's answer TRUE to many of these statements:
  • I have a rich, complex inner life.
  • I am made uncomfortable by loud noises.
  • I am deeply moved by the arts or music.
  • I make it a point to avoid violent movies and TV shows.
  • Being very hungry creates a strong reaction in me, disrupting my concentration or mood.
  • When I was a child, my parents or teachers seemed to see me as sensitive or shy.
